"BeatRoutes 2011 Local Release Roundup"
Chris Gheran's second release in as many years, Calgary, is a deceptive ode to our city. He may have been born into a white-collar middle management dead end, but Gheran fits the singer-songwriter role to a tee – a skill he no doubt honed through years of earnest dedication and busking on the streets of Calgary. If anyone is wondering why Calgary was granted 2012 Cultural Capital of Canada, send them this album.

- PepperLand Studio was christened on Tuesday, November 15 with the help of Calgary Folk Music Festival's Ian Chiclo, Palomino's Spencer Brown, Airwaves' Danny Patton, photographer Andy Stanislav, filmmaker Bailey Thalheimer, CJSW host Cailean David, apprentice embalmer Carrie Bryson, musicians Chris Austman, Mike Tod, Dylan, Tyler Stephan, Karen Mills, and more. The evening culminated with a magical version of 'You are my Sunshine' in which everyone added their unique harmony line. Was it recorded? No. "It was special. We'll remember it for the rest of our lives," said Gheran.
- Seem a little too quiet? That's because Chris has been working in Pepperland, his studio in Roxboro Park, preparing his fourth album coming out fall 2012. " Carrie and me went out to her Grampa's farm in the summer. His best friend asked me to take care of his accordion. So we'll see where that shows up on the album." he says.
